The Cornerstone Community guys in Bendigo just dedicated their Old Church on the Hill today, and as I write this are having a tasty celebration.

I was asked to write this prayer for the followers of Jesus who live and work around that place. Privilege to be there.

Cornerstone Community Prayer

We pray now for the Cornerstone Community and all those who follow Christ in this Neighbourhood.

We ask that the presence of God be with them always. May God’s law of love permeate every part of your common life. May God’s deep everlasting acceptance carry you with confidence wherever you go.

We ask that they encounter Jesus Christ again and again. In the stories of the kingdom of God, and the households of this place, may Jesus be to you as friend and brother on the road, as stranger in distressing disguise, as prophet calling you to the wild places.

We ask that the Spirit guide them in all they do and say. We pray that the Spirit console you in times of sorrow, disturb you in times of complacency and heal you in times of brokenness and despair.

We pray that the holy, dangerous, foolish and fun ethos of the communion of saints may inhabit them: that you may afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted.

Above all, we pray that your minds be renewed and your hearts freshened with a fierce love for the outsider,  those considered ugly and useless, the abandoned, the lonely, the lost, the poor, those starved of beauty, those in chains, the bereft and the grieving.

You are God’s servants, gifted with dreams and visions. Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire. Love and serve the Lord in the strength of the Spirit. May the deep peace of Christ be with you, the strong arms of God sustain you, and the power of the Holy Spirit strengthen you in every way.
